October saw a monthly rise amid the COVID-19 pandemic boosts the annual increase to 10.8 percent, compared with the same period in 2019
According to Golf Datatech’s National Golf Rounds Played Report, there was a 32.2% increase in rounds played in the U.S. in October, compared with the same month a year earlier.
The October bump continues an upward trend during the COVID-19 pandemic and boosts the year-to-date increase in rounds played to 10.8 percent compared with the first 10 months of 2019.
Double-digit increases were reported across the country, much of which enjoyed a drier month and more seasonal golf weather.
The northern tier of the country posted the sharpest gains in October. Only Hawaii, which is heavily dependent upon tourism, reported a decline in rounds played in October.
Since Golf Datatech started tracking rounds played in 1999, no double-digit annual gain has been recorded. And in those 21 years, year-over-year gains were posted only six times: 0.4 percent in 2005, 0.7 percent in 2006, 5.7 percent in 2012, 1.8 percent in 2015, 0.6 percent in 2016 and 1.5 percent in 2019.according to Golf Datatech’s National Golf Rounds Played Report.
